Having watched and followed Jaunt Air Mobility since day one, Electric Air Mobility, LLC, is pleased to see that their acquisition by the AIRO Group has led the companies into a successful IPO.

AIRO Group’s IPO Ushers in New Era for Advanced Air Mobility, Building on Jaunt and Carter Copter Innovations

AIRO Group Holdings, Inc. made headlines this week with a highly successful initial public offering, raising $60 million and seeing its stock soar as much as 291% on its debut. This milestone not only underscores investor enthusiasm for aerospace and defense technology but also positions AIRO Group as a pivotal player in the rapidly evolving advanced air mobility (AAM) sector.

A Strategic IPO for Growth and Credibility

AIRO Group, now trading on the Nasdaq under the ticker “AIRO,” priced its IPO at $10 per share, issuing 6 million shares and granting underwriters a 30-day option to purchase up to 900,000 additional shares. The offering was oversubscribed, reflecting strong demand from both institutional and retail investors. The company’s leadership, including Chairman Chirinjeev Kathuria, emphasized that the IPO’s primary goal was to establish public listing status, enhancing AIRO’s credibility and paving the way for larger-scale government and debt market funding in the future. Public status is expected to bolster AIRO’s ability to secure contracts with major clients, including NATO and the U.S. Department of Defense.

AIRO’s Vision: A Unified Aerospace and Defense Platform

AIRO Group stands out for its integrated approach to aerospace and defense, with a portfolio spanning unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), advanced avionics, training, and next-generation air mobility solutions. The company’s UAVs, equipped with advanced AI for reconnaissance and target identification, have already been deployed in NATO and EU countries, including real-world testing in the Ukraine conflict. AIRO’s focus on resilience, certification, and operational versatility positions it to take advantage of the growing demand in both military and civilian markets.

Jaunt Air Mobility: The Innovation Engine

A key part of AIRO Group’s portfolio is Jaunt Air Mobility, a company renowned for its breakthrough in compound-slowed rotor (SRC) technology. Jaunt’s Journey aircraft is the world’s first to combine the vertical takeoff and landing capability of a helicopter with the speed and efficiency of a fixed-wing airplane. This unique design is rooted in technology originally developed by Carter Aviation Technologies, which Jaunt acquired in 2019.

Carter Copter’s Legacy: From Gyrocopter to Gyrodyne

Carter Aviation Technologies, founded by Jay Carter, Jr., spent decades developing the slowed rotor/compound (SR/C) concept. Unlike a traditional gyrocopter, which uses an unpowered rotor for lift and a separate propeller for thrust, a gyrodyne (like Jaunt’s aircraft) features a powered rotor for takeoff and landing that can be slowed in cruise, with wings and propellers providing forward thrust and lift. This hybrid approach dramatically improves efficiency and safety, allowing for quiet, energy-efficient flight and the ability to land safely even in the event of power loss.

Carter’s technology demonstrators logged over 300 hours of manned flight testing, achieving milestones such as the first aircraft to reach μ-1 (where the rotor tip speed matches the aircraft’s forward speed), and demonstrated the potential for both high-speed and safe autorotation landings. Jaunt has further developed these innovations, making them central to its all-electric Journey eVTOL, now being advanced under the AIRO Group umbrella.

Looking Ahead: AIRO Group’s Ambition

With its IPO, AIRO Group is poised to accelerate its growth, invest in new technologies, and expand its global footprint. The company aims to secure additional funding from the Canadian government and the debt markets, and is targeting certification from the Department of Defense within six months to enter the Pentagon’s procurement system. AIRO’s comprehensive platform—combining UAVs, advanced air mobility, and next-generation avionics—positions it at the forefront of aerospace innovation.

By uniting the legacy of Carter Copter, the engineering excellence of Jaunt Air Mobility, and its vision for integrated aerospace solutions, AIRO Group is set to shape the future of advanced air mobility for years to come.
